Look for skin with few cracks or discolored spots. Avoid cuts and bruises. Juicy melon is not too big in size, but it weighs too much for its size. Thump it slightly – good, ripe melon give a hollow sound. And smell it, too – ripe fruit has a sweet, somewhat warm smell.
Store uncut melon in a cool, well-ventilated place. Cut melon should only be kept in the fridge, cut side wrapped in cling film.
