DIRECTIONS
  1. Preheat oven to 325° F (165° C).
  2. Combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. Cut in 1 cup lard. Add egg and 1 tsp almond extract, and mix. 
  3. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them 2 inches apart on a baking sheet (ungreased). Put an almond on top of each ball and press each almond down.
  4. Bake until the edges of the cookies are golden brown (about 15 minutes).
