DIRECTIONS
  1. Stir 1/4 cup of sugar together with the pecans in a skillet over medium heat until sugar has melted and caramelized the pecans. Transfer pecans onto waxed paper. Let them cool and break into pieces.
  2. Blend oil, vinegar, 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar, mustard, garlic, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Layer lettuce, pears, blue cheese, avocado, and onions in a large bowl. Pour the oil and vinegar mixture over salad. Sprinkle with pecans. Serve.
