  1. Preheat the oven to 325° F (165° C/Gas mark 3). Prepare an 11x13-inch cake pan by greasing and flouring it.
  2. In a bowl, mix cake mix, all-purpose flour, white sugar, and salt. Add water, sour cream, oil, almond extract, egg whites, and vanilla. Using an electric mixer, beat until mixed but some lumps are still there. Pour the mixture into the cake pan. 
  3. Bake for 25 min, until the top of the cake is golden brown. Use a toothpick to check for doneness: insert it in the center and see if it comes out clean. Before frosting, let the cake cool.
