Basmati Rice: Cook it Indian Style
- Soak rice in a bowl filled with water for about 20 minutes.
- Over medium heat, heat oil in a saucepan.
- Add cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and cumin. Stirring, cook for 1 minute. Add onion. Cook for 10 minutes (until onion slices are golden brown).
- Drain the water from rice. Stir into the saucepan. Cook until lightly toasted (several minutes). Add salt and water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and cover the rice. Continue cooking for about 15 minutes (until water has been absorbed). Before serving the rice, allow it to stand for about 5 min. Enjoy your Basmati Rice!
