INGREDIENTS
Servings: 18
Milk
1 cup
Melted shortening
1/4 cup
All-purpose flour (or bread flour)
6 cups
Salt
1 tsp
White sugar
2 tbsps
Active dry yeast
1 (.25 oz) package
Warm water
1 cup
DIRECTIONS
  1. Pour milk in a saucepan. Heat the milk to about 180° F (80° C). Remove from heat. Add white sugar, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Allow the mixture to cool until lukewarm.
  2. Dissolve active dry yeast in warm water in a bowl. Allow it to stand for 10 min.
  3. Combine milk, melted shortening, yeast mixture, and 3 cups all-purpose flour in a bowl. Beat the mixture until smooth. Add salt and 3 cups all-purpose flour. Knead the dough. Prepare a bowl by greasing it. Place the dough in the prepared bowl. Let the dough rise.
  4. Then, punch the dough down. Roll out to 1/2-inch thick. Cut rounds. Prepare waxed paper by sprinkling it with cornmeal. Arrange the dough rounds on it. Dust the tops with cornmeal. Cover and allow the rounds to rise for 30 minutes.
  5. Grease the griddle and heat it.
  6. Cook the English muffins for 10 min per side over medium heat.
