Shortening 
1/2 cup
Packed brown sugar 
1 1/3 cups
Baking soda 
1 tsp
Salt 
1/2 tsp
Ground cinnamon 
1 tsp
Ground cloves
1/2 tsp
Ground nutmeg 
1/4 tsp
Walnuts 
1 cup, chopped
Butter 
1 tbsp
Vanilla extract 
1/2 tsp
Half-and-half cream 
2 1/2 tbsps
Apples
 1 cup, peeled, cored, and finely diced
Raisins 
1 cup
Milk 
1/4 cup
Confectioners' sugar 
1 1/2 cups
Egg

All-purpose flour 
2 cups
DIRECTIONS
  1. Preheat the oven to 400° F (200° C/Gas mark 6). 
  2. In a bowl, combine shortening and brown sugar. Beat until light and fluffy. Beat in egg.
  3. In a separate bowl, stir together all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
  4. Stir half the flour mixture into the shortening mixture. Add walnuts, apple, and raisins. Stir well. Stir in the other half of the flour mixture. Add milk. Mix well.
  5. Prepare a baking sheet by greasing it. 
  6. Drop on the baking sheet by tablespoonfuls. Bake for 10 minutes. 
  7. Glaze: Combine powdered sugar, vanilla extract, butter, and half-and-half cream. Beat the mixture until smooth. Transfer the Apple Cookies to racks and spread with glaze.
