DIRECTIONS
  1. Combine warm water, milk powder, sugar (1/4 cup), salt, egg, egg white, flour, and yeast in the bread maker. Start on the dough program. Add currants (or raisins) and cinnamon when 5 minutes are left. Allow to double in volume. Flour a work surface. Grease a 9x12-inch-pan.
  2. Then, punch down the dough on the prepared surface. Allow the dough to rest for 10 minutes.
  3. Next, shape the dough into 12 balls. Place in the prepared pan. Cover. Allow the buns to rise in a warm place for 35 minutes, or until doubled.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375° F (190° C/Gas mark 5).
  5. In a bowl, mix egg yolk and water (2 tbsp). Brush on the buns.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes. Then, remove from the pan and allow to cool on a wire rack.
  7. Meanwhile, mix confectioners' sugar, vanilla, and milk in a bowl. Brush an X on the buns. Enjoy your Hot Cross Buns!
