INGREDIENTS

All-purpose flour
2 ½ cups
White sugar
1 ¾ cups
Baking soda
1 ½ tsp.
Salt
¼ tsp.
Baking powder
½ tsp.
Ground cinnamon
¾ tsp.
Ground cloves
½ tsp.
Ground allspice
½ tsp.
Butter
½ cup
Buttermilk
½ cup
Applesauce
1 ½ cups
Eggs
2
Walnuts
¾ cup, chopped
Butter
¼ cup
Pecans
1 cup, chopped
Confectioners’ sugar
4 cups
Cream cheese
1 (8 oz.) package, softened
Vanilla extract
1 ½ tsp.
DIRECTIONS
  1. Heat the oven to 350° F/175° C/Gas Mark 4.
  2. Sifting, add the first eight ingredients (from flour to allspice) to a large bowl.
  3. Add butter, buttermilk, and applesauce; mix well and then beat with a mixer on a medium speed.
  4. Beat the eggs into the mixture and add walnuts.
  5. Grease a flour a 9x13 inch pan and pour the batter on it.
  6. Bake for 50 minutes.
  7. Combine the last ingredients on the list ingredients (from confectioners’ sugar to vanilla) and mix until smooth.
  8. Over a medium heat, melt ¼ cup butter; add pecans and stir until browned.
  9. Add the cooled pecans to the cream cheese mix, stir well, and then frost the cake.
