Take one bowl and one pan to prepare this easy spice cake with a twist!
INGREDIENTS

All-purpose flour
2 ½ cups
White sugar
1 ¾ cups
Baking soda
1 ½ tsp.
Salt
¼ tsp.
Baking powder
½ tsp.
Ground cinnamon
¾ tsp.
Ground cloves
½ tsp.
Ground allspice
½ tsp.
Butter
½ cup
Buttermilk
½ cup
Applesauce
1 ½ cups
Eggs
2
Walnuts
¾ cup, chopped
Butter
¼ cup
Pecans
1 cup, chopped
Confectioners’ sugar
4 cups
Cream cheese
1 (8 oz.) package, softened
Vanilla extract
1 ½ tsp.
DIRECTIONS
- Heat the oven to 350° F/175° C/Gas Mark 4.
- Sifting, add the first eight ingredients (from flour to allspice) to a large bowl.
- Add butter, buttermilk, and applesauce; mix well and then beat with a mixer on a medium speed.
- Beat the eggs into the mixture and add walnuts.
- Grease a flour a 9x13 inch pan and pour the batter on it.
- Bake for 50 minutes.
- Combine the last ingredients on the list ingredients (from confectioners’ sugar to vanilla) and mix until smooth.
- Over a medium heat, melt ¼ cup butter; add pecans and stir until browned.
- Add the cooled pecans to the cream cheese mix, stir well, and then frost the cake.
