Baked Apples with Walnuts and Maple Syrup

Servings: 4
4 large sour apples
Maple syrup - 3/4cup
Walnuts - ½ cup, chopped
Golden raisins - ¼ cup
Unsalted butter
2 tbsps, cut to small pieces
Ice cream
for serving, optional
  1. Pre-heat the oven to 400°F/200°C/Gas Mark 6.
  2. Core the apples with a paring knife; trim their bottoms flat and place in an ovenproof skillet or baking dish.
  3. Drizzle the apples with maple syrup; fill the cavities with walnuts, raisins; if there are nuts and raisins left, place them into the pan around the apples. Put pieces of butter on top of the filling.
  4. Put the apples into the oven; bake for about 50 minutes until soft.
  5. Transfer apples to 4 individual plates; spoon the sauce from the skillet on top of each apple (if it is still too thin, cook it down for 3 minutes over medium heat until syrupy).
  6. Serve with ice cream (optional).
