Basmati Rice: Cook it Indian Style

This Basmati rice is flavored with spices and so, so delicious. Serve with curry!

INGREDIENTS
Servings: 6
Basmati rice 
1 1/2 cups
Vegetable oil 
2 tbsps
Cinnamon stick 
1 (2-inch) piece
Green cardamom 
2 pods
Whole cloves 
2
Cumin seed 
1 tbsps
Salt 
1 tsp
Water 
  2 1/2 cups
Onion 
1, sliced
DIRECTIONS
  1. Soak rice in a bowl filled with water for about  20 minutes.
  2. Over medium heat, heat oil in a saucepan. 
  3. Add cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and cumin. Stirring, cook for 1 minute. Add onion. Cook for 10 minutes (until onion slices are golden brown).
  4. Drain the water from rice. Stir into the saucepan. Cook until lightly toasted (several minutes). Add salt and water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and cover the rice. Continue cooking for about 15 minutes (until water has been absorbed). Before serving the rice, allow it to stand for about 5 min. Enjoy your Basmati Rice!
