INGREDIENTS
Servings: 6
Potatoes
4 cups, thinly sliced
Butter
3 tbsp.
Flour
3 tbsp.
Milk
1 ½ cups
Slat
1 tsp.
Cayenne pepper
1 dash
Sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup, grated
Cheese
½ cup, grated, to sprinkle
Paprika
for color
DIRECTIONS
  1. Heat the oven to 350° F/175° C/Gas Mark 4.
  2. Add butter to a small saucepan and melt it. Blend in flour and let the mixture sit for a minute.
  3. Whisking, add the cold milk. Season the mixture with salt and cayenne pepper.
  4. Bring the sauce to a boil on low and cook until smooth. Stir occasionally.
  5. Reduce the heat and add cheese. Stir well.
  6. Lightly grease a 1-quart casserole dish and put half of the potatoes in it. Pour half of the milk sauce over it.
  7. Repeat the process with potatoes and sauce.
  8. Sprinkle with the rest of the cheese, top with paprika, and bake for about 1 hour.
