These candied yams are a delicious compliment to any savory dish.
INGREDIENTS
Servings: 8
Sweet potatoes
3 lb, peeled, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
Brown sugar
1/2 cup
Bourbon
2 tbsp
Nutmeg
1 pinch
Salt
1 pinch
Orange juice
1/2 cup
Butter
3 tbsp
Cinnamon
1 stick
DIRECTIONS
- Preheat the oven to 400° F (200° C/Gas mark 6). Prepare a medium baking dish by buttering it.
- Combine brown sugar, juice, butter, cinnamon, bourbon, salt, and nutmeg in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes, until thickened. Discard cinnamon stick.
- Layer the sweet potatoes in the baking dish. Pour the brown sugar mixture over the sweet potatoes.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil. Bake Candied Yams for 1 hour, basting with sauce every 15 minutes. Serve and enjoy!
