INGREDIENTS
Servings: 20
Warm water
1 ½ cups
Milk
2 tbsps
Shortening
2 tbsps
Salt
1 tsp
Bread flour
4 cups
White sugar
3 tbsps
Active dry yeast
2 tsps
Raisins
1 cup
Butter
2 tbsps, softened
Brown sugar
2 tbsps
Ground cinnamon
1 tsp
Butter
1 tbsp, melted
DIRECTIONS
  • Use a bread machine or knead together water, yeast, milk, flour, shortening, salt, and sugar by hand.
  • Fold in the raisins or add them 5 minutes before the machine finishes its kneading cycle.
  • Take the dough out of the bread machine after the first cycle and roll out on a dusted surface to form a rectangle. Smear with butter, sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar. Form a roll and cut it in half. Transfer loaves into bread pans, cover with plastic wrap and let rise for an hour in a warm place. At some time within this hour start preheating your oven to 350°F/180° C/Gas Mark 4.
  • Remove plastic wrap; brush the tops with butter and bake for 30 minutes or until the top crust is browned. Ready loaves will sound hollow when you tap them.
