Quick and Easy Hush Puppies are deep-fried balls made of cornmeal batter.
INGREDIENTS
Servings: 6
All-purpose flour
1 cup
Cornmeal
3/4 cup
Granulated sugar
1 tbsp
Baking powder
2 tsp
Salt
3/4 tsp
Buttermilk
1/2 cup + 2 tbsp
Cayenne pepper
1 pinch
Onion
1 cup, minced
Egg
1, beaten
Vegetable oil
for frying
Chives
2 tbsp, chopped
DIRECTIONS
- Whisk together all-purpose flour, sugar, cornmeal, baking powder, cayenne, and salt. Add buttermilk, onion, egg, and chives. Stir to combine. Form small balls. Line a plate with paper towels.
- Heat vegetable oil (1 inch) in a skillet. When the oil is shimmering, add hush puppies in a single layer. Cook for 2 minutes on each side, or until golden. Transfer the homemade hush puppies to the prepared plate. Sprinkle with salt to taste. Serve and enjoy!
