A genuinely festive dish is great for any type of holiday but is especially heartwarming on Christmas!
INGREDIENTS

Water
¾ cup, or as needed
Whole star anise
2
Whole cloves
12 or more, to taste
Country-style ham
1 (7 lb.)
Light brown sugar, firmly packed
1 cup
Honey
¼ cup
Dijon mustard
2 tbsp.
Rice vinegar
2 tbsp.
Black pepper
1 ½ tsp., freshly ground
Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp.
Cayenne pepper
1 pinch
DIRECTIONS
- Heat the oven to 325° F/165° C/Gas Mark 3.
- Place star anise and cloves to the bottom of a roasting pan and add water.
- Put a roasting rack in the pan over water, anise, and cloves.
- Place the ham on the rack and cut ¼ inch deep slashes about ½ inch apart lengthwise and crosswise across the entire ham.
- Bake for 20 minutes.
- Combine all the remaining ingredients (from brown sugar to cayenne pepper) in a bowl and whisk until the glaze is thick and smooth.
- With a brush, cover ham with the glaze and bake it for 2 hours 10 minutes, brushing every 20 minutes, or until the ham is cooked through and the glaze is deep golden.
- With a kitchen torch, heat the glaze on the ham until it’s crispy or for about 2 to 5 minutes
