- Heat the oven to 325° F/165° C/Gas Mark 3.
- Prepare and 9x5 loaf pan and grease it.
- Combine the first five ingredients (from flour to baking soda) in a medium-sized bowl.
- In a separate bowl, blend milk and buttermilk together and add the mixture to the flour mixture. Stir well until moistened, add butter, and pour the mixture into the pan.
- Bake for 65 to 70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the bread comes out clean.
- Cool on a wire rack, then wrap in foil and store for several hours or overnight before serving.
