Sausage Stuffing

This classic Sausage Stuffing recipe delivers a rich flavorful dressing your family will love. The recipe is very adaptable.

Breakfast sausage
1 pound
Chopped onion
3/4 cup
Finely diced celery
1 1/2 cups
Margarine, melted
3/4 cup
White bread cubes
8 cups
Poultry seasoning
3 tsp., or to taste
Ground black pepper
1/4 tsp., or to taste
  1. Cook sausage meat in a frying pan. Drain and reserve the drippings.
  2. Melt margarine. Add enough sausage drippings to make 1 cup.
  3. Sauté onions and celery in margarine/dripping sauce until onion is soft but not brown.  Mix in 1/3 bread cubes and keep cooking for 5 more minutes. Transfer to a bowl, mix in remaining bread cubes and sausage meat. Season with pepper and poultry seasoning. Mix well.
  4. Stuff turkey.

*You can adjust this recipe to your liking by adding apples, giblets, etc. When cooking extra in the oven, place the stuffing in a buttered casserole dish, and place in a pan of hot water. Cover, and baste with turkey drippings occasionally.
